Poor unfortunate souls…..

On Saturday I headed down to London to attend the first British Plus Size Awards, held at the prestigious Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden. I'll probably write a little bit more about the evening at some point. Total plusses of the evening include spending time in the company of some of the coolest women I know and drinking copious amounts of wine so it can't be all bad huh?

What I wanted to focus on in this post is my outfit for the evening! I had a bit of mare (as my darling Betty Pamper might say) I had originally planned on wearing a floor length teal number, I thought the green would look great against my blonde hair. There was just one problem, it wasn't floor length, it wasn't even a maxi. It was a funny, just above the ankle, length that looked terrible! So with less than two weeks to go I flew into panic mode. I remembered the gorgeous Charlotte from Simply Be had said, should I need their assistance I could contact her. So that's what I did.

I knew instantly which dress I would like to wear, the Project D Olympia Maxi. I'd fallen in love with this dress at the preview event I attended over the summer but Toni had her heart set on it for the awards and quite rightly too. It's gorgeous, but sadly Toni wasn't able to make the event so I decided to go for it.

I was also very kindly sent some shoes for the occasion from the lovely folk at JustFab, you might have seen me enthuse about their range on the blog before. I have several of their bags which I love!

Excuse dodgy mirror pic, I just wanted to show the full length of the dress. Lucky for me Betty's lovely husband Nicky Rockets took some wonderful pics for me.

It's Ariel and Ursula!!!!

I love that Betty and I, completely unplanned ended up dressed as Ariel and Ursula from The Little Mermaid!

I absolutely loved the dramatic feel to the dress, it was a true show stopper and I got asked all night who my dress was by. Just for reference, I'm wearing the 22, it's true to size but is very fitted, so thats something to be aware of.

OOTD: Wardrobe Lurker

Hello! I bought this pinafore from ASOS as soon as it came out about 2 months ago, so desperate to get my hands on it… And you know what? This is the first time I've worn it!! What was that all about?

Have you ever done that? Wanted something so badly, but then when it arrives haven't bothered wearing it?

I'm still not 100% sure I like it on. It's cute, but is a little too cute for my personal style? What do you guys think?

Things I love about this dress? The tartan pattern and the brushed cotton feel to the fabric. Things I don't love? The button fasting to the back, god forbid you're single or don't happen to have anyone around in the morning because you will not be able to do this up on your own!! I mean really?

I did find it true to size though, I'm wearing the 22 and it's just right. The dress is currently on sale at £29.00 rather than the £42.00 I paid for it. So if you do like it, grab yourself a bargain!

Despite the fastening problem, I do like the dress, but I'm still on the fence as to whether it's my style or not…...

BeBe Reveals all….

Well here's me pissing and moaning yesterday, when in fact I have an awful lot to be grateful for and I do really know that, I just think losing out on stuff can make you think and analyse stuff. And if you're anything like me you over analyse, play stuff over and over again in your head and get yourself in a right tizz. So no more!!!

One of said things to be grateful for happened a couple of weeks ago. I was invited to London for a photoshoot with Reveal magazine

1 in 6 women refuse to let their partners see them naked, so myself and 3 other gorgeous girlies went to Reveal HQ to have a chat all about that… Can you guess what my stance was?

And yes, thats me in my pants…..

If you fancy having a read you can download Reveal from the app store for iPhone/iPad right now or you can buy the print edition tomorrow… Exciting huh? (Well actually it was terrifying, being half naked in front of your partner is something very different to getting your kit off in a studio and knowing it's going to be in print, but was fun all the same!!)

I just wanted to extend a huge thanks to Reveal Magazine too, Su and the gang took such good care of us, made us feel so welcome and comfortable and I got to meet a really lovely bunch of ladies <3

And yes, I'm a knob…

My big fat Sunday moan...

You know what gang? I'm going to have a bit of a moan. It might be a bit of an aimless, set indulgent ramble, but bear with me, or if you like, click that cross and don't bother reading. I wouldn't blame you!

Last night I attended the British Plus Size Awards, which I will write about later in the week. But it's kind of got me thinking about what I do, why I do it and how tough it can be, but how ultimately its so rewarding too.

This was mine and Rivkie's losers faces!!!

I was up for three awards last night, one personally for the blog you're reading and two, along with Toni for Plus North. Sadly we came away with nothing, and it made me think about what we do and the recognition (or lack of) we get.

I'm not going to lie, I was truly heartbroken Plus North didn't get the Best Event award. We were up against the British Plus Size Weekend. I've made no secret that in my opinion, the event was not good. It was poorly organised, and a truly uncomfortable experience in every way. There was no hospitality whatsoever, people were left to hang around in grimy corridors with no seating, no refreshments to purchase and no real customer service. Some would say that that was sour grapes on my part as the organiser of a similar event, but I feel completely justified in my evaluation of the event due to the fact that every other person I have spoken to who attended the event felt exactly the same. What irks me I guess is that we just couldn't compete with the organisers already established following and they secured votes, I'm sure, from followers of the organisers associated pages and not from those who actually attended their event.

So what can we do? Nothing, we have to continue to focus on creating events that make our attendees feel special, that entertain and are value for money. Because thats why we do it. And what we have to remember is that our event truly changes lives. To have women come up to us and tell us they've never felt confident or comfortable with themselves and that Plus North changed everything for them… well that beats any award, any day.

And as for me and my little blog? Well I don't know guys, I don't know what else I can do? I question myself every day. Am I edgy enough? Are my outfits put together well enough? Am I too old? As I see opportunities pass me by and are given to other bloggers, I can't help but criticise myself to the point of tears… yes folks, that's how much I love doing this, so when I don't get that level of recognition I beat myself up over it.

But then I have to give myself a massive slap round the face with a wet fish (I am from Grimsby after all) and realise that in part (and selfishly) this blog is for me, it's my space, it's my outlet, it's my place to have fun with fashion. And more importantly it's a place to show other women, that you can indeed wear whatever you want. That being plus size isn't an automatic sentence in a prison of shapeless tents. It's thanks enough that people even bother to read this drivel and comment and take the time to tell me how much they enjoy it. So thank you. Who needs an award when I have you lot!

AX Paris: Big Heart Knit Jumper

For my AX Paris choice this month I decided to go for something quite casual. It's absolutely bitter here at the moment, so what better than a cosy knit?

I appears I was having a grumpy day on these pics. I assure you I wasn't, have no idea why it comes across like that!!!

I ordered the jumper in the 24/26 to ensure it looked nice and loose. I like my jumpers to be voluminous, wether that be chunky wise or in this case size wise.

The jumper is a fine knit, its very soft without being itchy and the cut is quite boxy, which I love. It's a really simple outfit, but the jumper is such a cute piece in it's own right I didn't feel the need to dress it up too much. It's just one of those easy to wear, effortless chic kinda outfits, (or at least it is in my head!)

Because it's a fine knit, it actually feels quite sexy in a snuggly but slinky way! Another winner from AX Paris!

OOTD: Peachy Rose

I bought this dress a couple of weeks ago now and just haven't got round to wearing it. When I saw it pop up on Topsy Curvy's face book page I fell in love with it and scraped the barrel of my paypal account to get it!

I love the Topsy Curvy girls, they were such a brilliant part of Plus North, their huge personalities really made the day and their banging karaoke skills carried the night!!

I love the floral pattern on the dress, that's what instantly drew me to it. Once it arrived though and I got to feel the material, I was so excited, it feels like velvet, it's so soft, I want to touch my hips all day long!! HA!!!

The fit is really generous, this is a 20 and I think probably could have sized down again. The only thing for me was the sleeves, they were a funny none length, not long but not 3/4. But that was easily solved by pulling them up a little bit.
