The Fat Fabulous Four Challenge

Hello! So, I'm starting a new fortnightly challenge along with Mhairi, Toni and Rosie, we aim to cover a trend each fortnight, I miss my five takes so this will be major fun I'm hoping!

This challenge we're looking at lace, which really doesn't seem to be going away, I love the way it's being used at the moment in fashion, and being mixed in with quite interesting materials, like sporty sweatshirts, denims and khakis.

I've had this jumper since last summer, it gets loads of wear as it can be worn casual with jeans and leggings or dressed up a bit more like I've worn it here....

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore... Jumper - Florence and Fred// Skirt - AX Paris// Boots - Barratts// Necklace - Carnaby & Campbell
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

How are you wearing lace this season? Do you wear it with casual outfits or do you still see it as a fancy fabric?

OMCZ - Challenge #3

Ok, so as you might know, a fortnight ago I was invited to join the OCMZ (Outside my comfort zone) challenge, I'd missed challenge one, posted challenge 2 so here we are at challenge 3! This time we were asked to incorporate, bright/hot pink, stripes and leggings into an outfit.

 photo 0f93bf94eba3eda84fec4e016635a1d0_zpsf597f921.jpg

Now I'm not sure if I've interpreted this right but in the absence of hot pink, stripy leggings, I think I'm right in thinking I'm to incorporate all three into a full outfit? OK so here goes!

I love the buttons on the shoulder of this sweatshirt...

I wore my H&M sweatshirt. When I saw this I was instantly drawn to it, which is weird, because I hate pink, I don't like wearing it, it feels too girly to me, and I'm just not a girly girl. But this neon pink against the beige jumped out at me and it's been a firm wardrobe favourite ever since and more recently I bought another really bright pink jumper, so maybe I'm slowly coming round to pink?

So that's the stripy and pink done, just the leggings, nothing exciting about these I'm afraid, just my normal black leggings. I really like the ones from Sainsburys, they wear really well and are nice and thick.

I wasn't feeling too hot when these pictures a were taken, so please excuse the exhausted looking smile... This is how I really felt...

Swimwear 365 - Guest Post

Hello! I've done a little guest post over on the Swimwear 365 site today...

Sporty mutton....

Sporty mutton? For those of you who haven't lived in Britain, you might not be familiar with the saying "mutton dressed as lamb" basically meaning when a women dresses a little too young for her age. Now I'm a big believer of wearing whatever you want regardless of size and indeed age.... But.... Are there some items that should stay with the younger girls. Do we get to an age where we can't pull off certain trends anymore?

I'm always looking for ways to be casual without looking scruffy, when I'm running after Poppy I need to be comfy, my clothes need to be flexible and practical (I know, yawn, yawn, hardly the stuff of high fashion) so I thought the sports luxe type thing might be for me, but to be fair, I'm not sure how well I've pulled it off....

I wore.... Parka - Simply Be (Similar)// Swing Dress - ASOS (Similar)// Leggings - ASOS // Wedge Trainers - Next (via eBay) (Similar)

I don't know guys, is this look just too young? Or do I just need to suck it up, own it and work it?!

Project D London for Simply Be Review

Hello! Hope you're all having a lovely weekend? When I took the pics for this post a few days ago on a lovely sunny spring afternoon, little did I know I would be publishing this post on a awful snowy afternoon!!

So, anyway, Myself and 4 other bloggers were contacted to see if we'd like to review a dress, but not any old dress, this dress is one of the new Project D London for Simply Be dresses! I was really excited at this prospect, there's been a lot of buzz around this range and I was interested to test the dress out for myself.

 photo 24edc5e449b29d0d97e0168eedaf7d8c_zps62a5d1de.jpg

We were sent the Lincoln print maxi, I'm not sure this would have been my first choice from the range. It's very beautiful, but maybe a little mature, or formal for my wardrobe? There is no denying the quality of this dress, fully lined in a beautiful lilac silky fabric, the dress wouldn't be out of place at a wedding or the races for example. I think I'd like to try and dress it down to suit my wardrobe a bit more, maybe with a belt, sandals and trusty denim jacket?

 photo 949523e31f227eb4c7f4693bfeca9319_zps224efb49.jpg

But for the purposes of this post I styled the dress simply with turquoise jewellery to pick out the lovely flashes of blue in the dress and some beige wedges. The dress itself is quite roomy in the bust area so is ideal for all you ladies blessed with the bazoomas! I went with my usual 22 and found it true to size. The lining was snug against my skin though so if you're a very hippy 22, it might not work for you.

The back of the dress has an elasticated section for a nice fit and has a lovely cut out detail that's really pretty. This really is a very gorgeous dress and if you have a big occasion coming up, a sunny holiday or even some summer nights out planned this would be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Introducing...Scarlett and Jo

Hello! So you might remember back in January myself and a bevvy of blogging babes were invited to Evans HQ for their Shape Studio event, where we had a blast trying on lots of clothes and playing models for the day. One of my favourite pieces of the day was this simple but beautiful tunic dress with a crochet collar from new brand Scarlett and Jo

 photo Img30839_zpsc8045888.jpg

After the event the lovely folk from Scarlett and Jo were kind enough to send me another of their dresses from the range the Navy Lace Sleeve dress. Made from a viscose/elastane mix the dress is like a heavy jersey it hangs really nice and feels great on. I'd sized up to the 24 because I found the black dress above a great fit in the 24 but i think because of the stretch in this navy dress I could have gotten my usual 22. The length on my 5'7" body is just above the knee.

For this post I decided to try and style it 2 ways. All too often I'm sent really dressy dresses which is amazing but unfortunately I just don't go out enough to warrant it, so its nice when a dress can double up as casual and dressy!

For the casual look I teamed the dress with leggings metallic pumps and a bright scarf

For the dressy look I kept it simple again and added tights, heels and chunky necklace

Safe to say I think this dress will get lots of use, its really comfortable and versatile and I love the contracts of the navy dress against the black lace. The new range has some great pieces in it, why not go and see what else Scarlett and Jo has to offer.

My Week...

Hey! Hope you're all having a relaxing Sunday! Thought I'd do a little catch up post! This week seems to have flown by, it's seems ages ago, but it was only last Sunday that we had Mothers Day.

I'm always acutely aware of what a terrible day it can be for some folk so I'm extremely grateful and thankful for the fact I have a wonderful mum and that I am now a mum myself to a beautiful little girl. We don't go mad, but we buy a card and flowers just to say thanks and I was awoken with a card and a cuddle from my baby, so all is good in the world.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

We also went to my mums for lunch which was lovely. I wore my Clements Ribeiro trousers because its effectively an acceptable way of wearing my pyjamas to dinner, stretchy and comfy but still smart looking!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

After Sunday the week seemed to speed by, Poppy had a taster session at her school. I can't believe my little girl is going to school. It may only be nursery but they have to wear a uniform, there will be tears the day she starts I just know it.... They'll only be from me I might add, she'll be well up for it!

Michael has been busy with his new business and has been doing some great work. This week he finished a blog header for Stephanie over at Riverside Baking, I love the Art Deco styling of it!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

And speaking of blogs, my lovely best friend Sara has started a blog, she's always been so bloody stylish so I'm excited to see what she has in store!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

So that's been my week really..... Oh yeh, apart from, I don't know if you know but I have a thing for second hand furniture, my house is a bit like Steptoes yard, I'm always scouring eBay and charity shops. This week I picked up this gorgeous dining table and six chairs for £10.50...AMAZING!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

So how's your week been? Picked up any bargains? And did you celebrate Mother's Day? If so, how?

The great blogger movement......

There's a grumbling in the plus size blogger ranks, there's things a happening in these here shores, brands are starting to sit up and take notice of how valuable bloggers can be and what an asset we are to their marketing and customer relations. It's never more prominent than in the plus size fashion world too, because as long as brands continue to use size 12 models to promote clothes marketed at people above a size 20, blogs will be continue to be a go-to resource to help women understand how clothes might look on a figure more familiar to themselves.

This past month we've seen high profile collaborations between bloggers and brands such as Simply Be and Evans; and although the models, or clothing might not be to everyone's tastes there's no denying that this is huge (yes I get the irony in that) brands are recognising the power of using more obtainable imagery. We are all fully aware of the overuse and misuse of the term "real women", but I think originally what the phrase was meant to embody was that these aren't models, pictures of uncontainable perfection, but are, in fact, identifiable figures. Who, like us have what are perceived to be flaws (although I hastened to point out they are not) these women have bellies, and boobs, or not as the case may be, they have chunky knees and double chins. It's refreshing, it's exciting, it's a bit scary too and I for one am interested to see if these risks will pay off for the brands.... Stay tuned folks!

AX Paris - Laser Cut PU Scallop Skirt

Hello! It's AX Paris time of the month again, last month I reviewed the Burn Out Stud Lace Dress here, this month I chose the Laser Cut PU Scallop Skirt. I don't own many skirts and I was so excited when I saw this go live on the site, I love the laser cut work on it and the scalloped edge to the skirt.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I was originally sent the size 22 but had to exchange it for the 20 as I found the sizing really generous, so that might be worth remembering when ordering. The PU material is really soft to the touch and the skirt is fully lined so its really comfortable..

I'm 5'7" and the skirt sits as a kind of midi on me, I love this length as I'm not a huge fan of my knees so it means when the weather gets better I can wear the skirt with confidence without tights.

Even though its a leather look skirt I like to think I'd wear it on a night out in the summer with a slinky vest top and strappy sandals for a cool summer look.

Have you got your eye on any of the pieces from the AX Paris Curve range at the moment?

Work, rest and play: Fashion World

Hello! I love putting these kind of posts together, I get to have a play with outfits and pull together looks I might not always have the guts to wear myself.

Today I'm focusing on plus size clothing from fashion world I've made up 3 outfits all which are available on the site, for work, rest and play...

This is quite a relaxed work outfit, but I've noticed more and more that the way people dress for work is changing, I love how this is still smart, but feels fresh and fashionable.

I like how this is smart enough you don't feel a complete slob if someone unannounced turns up at the house, but comfortable enough to relax round the house.

Oh my goodness, this is so bright, I love coral and this dress is so sexy, I'd like to think I'd have the guts to wear it (in the summer with a tan though) Its a full on party, night out with the girls outfit, and the shoes are just gorgeous!!

Outside my comfort zone: Yellow

Hello everyone! Something a bit new this week! I was really excited when Rachel from Happyness Magnet asked if I'd like to join the OMCZ (Outside my comfort zone) challenge, I used to love doing the Five Take challenge and missed it very much so I jumped at the chance to do this!

 photo 0f93bf94eba3eda84fec4e016635a1d0_zpsf597f921.jpg

So without further a do, this fortnights challenge is to incorporate a Yellow Skirt into your outfit. I was a little unnerved when I saw the brief as I don't own a yellow skirt and with money tight I didn't fancy buying one much, so I had to think a little bit outside of the box and that essentially is what these challenges are about and why I love them! So with no skirt I thought about the yellow items I did own and I remembered last summer I got a boob tube from primark for wearing in the garden on sunny days, so I got the summer suitcase down from the top of the wardrobe (I haven't had the heart to unpack my summer wardrobe yet) and managed to dig it out!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I teamed it with my black and white leopard print top from Simply Be, tights and Barratts boots. As you might have noticed I've gone a bit monochrome mental of late, but at London Fashion Week Sass and Bides show had lots of monochrome with pops of bright yellow, so I've kind of tried to do that, although mines more of a mustard yellow!

Go and check out how the other OMCZ peeps have tackled the Yellow Skirt Challenge!

SLiNK Issue 9

Evening guys,

Oooo! It's SLiNK time again, I get all excited when the next issue comes around and this one is a corker! Stunning imagery, compelling articles and the most fabulous fashion you could wish for.

This issue tackles Health, but in usual SLiNK style, there's no preachy articles, there's no Lycra clad lady doing hip thrusts and there's no faddy diets to contend with. Hoorah!

The stand out piece for me is this crazy amazing editorial featuring Priscilla Ono. Muse to David LaChapelle and renowned make up artist to the likes of Rihanna,

Priscilla talks about her work within the fashion and music industry and being a confident and curvaceous, healthy woman.

Images: Model: Priscilla Ono / Photography : Vijat Mohindra

Oh yeh and there's a little article in there from me, I tackle the sensitive issue of weightloss surgery, and ask if we are dying to be thin?

SLiNK magazine Issue 9 is available now

Hidden Treasures

The other weekend it was SO sunny, a very stark contrast to today's snow!

Anyway, we rushed out in the sun to the garden centre to pick up compost and seeds for growing our own veg like we do every year and on the way back stopped off at the park, so I just threw on a casual kind of outfit, and low and behold I found an old pair of friends at the back of the cupboard... my beautiful Missy Elliot Adidas trainers.. oh how I love thee!!

Is it worth it?! Let me work it, I lay my thing down, flip it and reverse it....

I wore my ASOS T-shirt, black leggings and Chelsea Doll Necklace...

Yo, its sunny...

Did you get a glimpse of spring only for it to dash off again?

Be good to yourself....

Through the wonderful world of twitter I found out this morning there was a food festival happening in a village on the outskirts of my town, so I rallied the the gang together and headed out despite the very cold and wet conditions! Visiting farmers markets and food festivals is just about one of my favourite things to do. I love food, I love good food, home grown, home made, locally produced food is the best. I meant to take some pics but I totally forgot!

I did get my outfit though!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore... Coat - So Fabulous// Jumper - So Fabulous// Shirt - ASOS// Leggings - Sainsburys// Boots - Evans// Bag - ASOS

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I love this jumper it's so soft and the bright almost neon coral is such a lovely shade, it's only £14.00 in the sale at the moment too!

When we got back this afternoon my Mother's Day present (to myself) arrived too....

On Monday twitter was alight with bloggers who were at the launch of the new Giles Deacon range for QVC, "Libertine". The lovely Amy of Wolfwhistle tweeted a pic of the most amazing ring, when I saw it, I had to have it....

I am a little bit in love... So yes I have been a little bit indulgent, but it's good to be good to yourself.
