What a difference a year makes!

It's been an amazing year, so I thought I'd cover some of my personal highlights and fave outfits. As you know I've been feeling a bit down, so this is also a means of cheering myself up and a reminder of how far the blog has come!

January was all about one thing... GOK! When Simply Be contacted me to attend the launch event for Goks shapewear range I was a) jumping around the room with joy b) thought they must have the wrong person and c) surely Gok wasn't going to be there?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
Still regret looking like a miserable bitch!

He blooming well was! And I can honestly say, he is as nice in person as he seems on the TV and although I don't always agree with his persistence on shape dressing he couldn't have been more polite and friendly towards us.

February saw me heading down to London again for the fabulous Plus London 2, organised by Claire of A Monkey Fatshionista. The evening consisted of fun, cupcakes, a fat catwalk and lots of fabulous fashion of course! And it was at Plus London that we first talked about doing something similar up North, and so, Plus North was born!

March was full of fun again, I headed to London for the launch of the Clements Ribeiro for Evans collaboration, I was also Doncaster bound for the launch of the Simply Be store, and I somehow managed ending up cutting the ribbon, and I had love affairs with a flamingo shirt and some flared jeans!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

April saw the start of the Swimwear Challenge, myself, Gina, Sarah and Mhairi went about trailing some of the the high streets best plus size swimwear. I was so proud of my swim wear ladies, it takes guts for anyone to parade in very little in a public forum, so thanks ladies, it was a pleasure to work with you, and of course thank you to the brands who participated, we hope you found your ideal summer swimsuit!

May was filled with lazy sunny days, playing in the garden with my little girl, so in terms of blogging it was a pretty average month. It was the month I wore my awesome parrot jumpsuit though!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Style wise June was the month I finally got my hands on some Clements Ribeiro. I'll be honest, I couldn't afford any of the items at full price, so I snapped up 2 of the bold print tops when they were reduced in the sale.

Well July was really all about Plus North for me personally, Toni and I are incredibly proud of the event we created, and can't thank everyone who supported us enough, everyone who helped, exhibitors and most importantly those of you who came along!

August was a riot of colour, and included some of my favourite outfits!...

September was a varied month, I spoke about an issue close to my heart, suicide awareness. I got my boobs out in my first bra review, continuing with firsts, did my first vlog, went on my holibobs, and did some drunken singing!

Oh guys.. October was "Blonde" month... Erm, let's just say it didn't last long!!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Once the blonde was gone I also got to hang out with some of my favourite ladies, Hanna and Caroline at a Tesco event...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

November was fun, Toni and I got the chance to travel to Liverpool to meet up with the So Fabulous Team at Very HQ, we had such a fun day trying all the clothes on and chatting about fashion and the great things to come from So Fabulous...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

December was the month I got my hair did! Yeh, although I went for the chop back in April-ish, this month I went super short! I also turned 33 this month, and celebrated in style at my favourite Burlesque night. We also had a bit of a rough time when my Nanna passed away on my birthday and MrBeBe lost his job, but you know what? I'm looking forward to 2013 with optimism, hope and excitement. Life is indeed too short so let's give 2013 a good spanking!!

Happy New Year everyone, thank you do much for making 2012 a pretty awesome bloggy year, much, much love!

Slobbing around the Christmas Tree

You could probably get me done on the trades description act as when these pics where taken this morning I'd already taken down my Christmas Tree, in fact, I took it down yesterday. But it's safe to say I've not really got dressed up at all this Christmas, I've worn wither PJ's or comfy leggings and sweatshirts. Todays sweatshirt was one of my Christmas presents from the husband, the boy done good yeh?

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore...

Sweatshirt - New Look // Leggings - Simply Be // Scarf - Peacocks

I've not been in the best of places mentally this festive period, I've been really down and have struggled to enjoy anything really, which is a shame, but inevitable after what has been a bit of a crappy month I think I was due a slump, so do excuse the glum, make up free face, but just wanted to pop in and say hello, and hope that you all had a considerably more enjoyable time than I have!

I'm going on theory that were going out for New Years so I'm saving up my cheer and merriment for then! And of course I'll be getting my uber glam on, so I'll post what I wore in the New Year.

This time of year...

It's hard to believe a year has passed so quickly. This time last year myself and a bevy of blogging beauties posted Christmas blogs with information for support lines and websites. I'm going to post that information again for you this year, but first I'd like to take a moment to say thank you.

I've had the most amazing year because of the blog and ultimately that's because of you guys, the people who take the time to read and comment on the blog, and over on twitter and Facebook, I can't tell you how much this means to me, but, well I'm going to try....

So why does it mean so much?

Don't get me wrong, regardless of any other factors, your support means the earth to me, but it's compounded by the fact that living with depression can be hard, harder than words can express, but knowing there are people out there who appreciate what I have to say and take the time read my mutterings warms my heart so much and makes living with depression that little bit easier. The sense of pride my blog gives me and the opportunities it has brought me have helped to improve my self confidence and give me a feeling of self worth.

I'm incredibly fortunate to have a loving husband and beautiful daughter, but the fact of the matter is depression can make you blind to all the good things in life, it makes you feel so bad about yourself, that you feel you don't deserve those things... So I guess in my usual, rambling manner, I'm trying to say thank you, because even at my lowest I could seek comfort in my blog.

With the festive period approaching, regardless of your beliefs or what you do/don't celebrate it can be a very lonely time of year, people who might normally be around are off visiting family, you might be used to being on your own, but other peoples glee at spending time with friends and family can make you acutely aware of your situation. Financially the pressure can be overwhelming, when others are spending huge amounts on food and presents it can make you feel inadequate. All I can say is that you are not alone, lots of us are feeling this pressure and loneliness too. But if things do get too much to bare, or you just fancy a chat with someone, please use the information below. So finally, beforei disappear for a few days, a huge thank you again from me and MASSIVE, MASSIVE BeBe hugs....

Simplicity is the key....

Sometimes I wish I was one of those bold fashion peacocks, that I could mix my prints with style and confidence, but the fact of the matter is, I'm just not brave enough, on occasion I will and I love it, but for the most part I'm a bit "matchy matchy".

I think a big factor is the town I live in too, I often find I'm more bold when I visit cities. When you live in a small town, it's hard to be "that" girl, the odd one who wears funny trousers and garish jewellery, oh dont get me wrong on the whole I am, but I do tend to tone it down most days.

Tonight we went out for Sushi with gorgeous friends, including my best friend Sara who has been one of the biggest fashion influences in my life, she has set the benchmark so high, she always dresses with such style and flair, and I love her for that.

I wore my amazing floral trousers from So Fabulous, and in the small village in which the restaurant was I did get a few funny looks, but I had toned it down wearing all black with them.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore a simple black Tee, my ancient black tuxedo jacket I've have for years and my trusty clarks court shoes, I've raved about these trousers in previous posts, but they really are so comfortable and the fit is great. I love the pansy print and the vibrant colours, so what if I get a few funny looks? Forever loving my floral trousers!

At onesie with oneself...

Love, hate or view with indifference, it would seem the onesie isn't going anywhere fast. I personally love them, no drafty back when your top rides up, and having always had a weird thing for George Dawes, I feel very comfortable in my adult baby grow!

I picked this beauty up from Tesco today, it's got bird print on it, I don't really feel like I need to explain any further to be honest. It rocks...

They're not on the website, not sure why, but it might be worth a trip to your local store if you love it as much as I do!

Are you feeling the onesie, or do they get on your wick?

Big Boot Challenge: Curvissa

Hello! Hope you're all well, I have got a stinking cold... AGAIN! But snot issues aside, it's time for another installment of the Big Boot Challenge. If you're not familiar with this post. As a woman with a 19/20inch calf (to be precise, one is 19, one is 19 & 1/2, ha ha!) myself and Toni of "The Only Way is Toni" decided to issue a challenge to plus size retailers, for many years I'd found myself trying to find that illusive knee high boots, breaking down in tears (a tas melodramatic but true) in the middle of a certain plus size retailer when their supposed "wide calf" boots wouldn't fit. Desperately wanting to spend, sometimes large sums of money on the perfect boots on to find that yet again, they didn't zip up.

So I guess we wanted to see if things had changed or improved, and I'm glad to say, so far, they have! Every single pair of boots we've been sent so far have fitted with no issues at all. Unfortunately on this occasion I know Toni has been disappointed and although her calves are only and inch or so bigger than mine, it shows how much of a difference it can make... So before I go on, I will say, if your calves are any bigger than about 19 inches, these boots will not be suitable.

The boots in questions are the Curvissa Extra wide fitting boots in the Brown...

I was really pleased with these boots, they fitted well around the ankle and the elastic wasn't over stretched when I put them on. I love the brown and although it doesn't show up well in the pics, it's quite a rich brown. The leather is soft and supple, and the soles are chunky, but quite lightweight. I like how they look on and think they look quite demure for a knee high boot, not as chunky as some others.

Curvissa have a small range of wide fitting boots, you can see the rest of the range here

Invasion of the Killer Curves!!

Just a quick one today, first off... *Disclaimer* Curves/Curvy is a very loaded word in the fatosphere, for too long companies have used curves as an almost apologetic term to appease fat women who might not be ready to accept there wobbliness in all it's glory, and that's fine, but let's face it, curvy is a description of a body shape, not size. I know women who are a size 6 who are very curvy and I know women who are a size 28 who don't have a curve on them, straight up and down, and that's fine.

I do however, class myself curvy, I also know I'm fat too, but with a large bust a small(ish) waist and some rather large hips I have what you might class as a curvy figure. So when I saw the lovely Betty Bee was selling these awesome B-movie-esque tshirts, I had to get my chubby little hands on one! Cue ridiculous photos of me acting like a complete tool......

Safe to say I'm super pleased with the tshirt, it's a good quality jersey, I bought the XXL, which fits great, and for £12 it's a complete steal! If you want to rock your killer curves just click on the link here you'll also see the rather marvellous Betty herself modelling it like the knock out, hot momma she is, meeeeeowwwww ;)

Wrap up with Vida Moda!

Not getting any warmer is it? Holy crapoly it's cold! I'm a bit of a misery guts when it comes to winter but when I am properly wrapped up and snuggly I can just about manage to crack a smile, so, when the lovely chaps at Vida Moda sent me this beautiful Fair Isle ladies wrap I was so happy!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The wrap itself is a lovey soft warm wool, I love that you can just chuck it over any outfit from jeans to something more dressy, and instantly look more "dressed". The fair isle print is a classic that just happens to be on trend at the moment, so all the better!

You really do get quality fashion at Vida Moda, classic pieces that will last for years to come. Fast fashion is great, but when you're looking to invest in quality garments it's places like Vida Moda that do this really well.

I teamed the wrap with a simple base, how would you wear it?

Barratts Boot Review...

I was contacted by the lovely Kieron at Barratts last week to see if I'd like to review a pair of shoes for them, I was really excited because I absolutely love shoes. Way back when, when I was a size 32, and there wasn't as much clothing choice around as there is now, shoes where my way of keeping up with trends and adding colour to an outfit. They made me feel a little bit more normal, I cold talk with slim friends about the newest shoe, whereas talking about fashion was always hard because I felt excluded because of my size. A little deep for a shoe review, I know, but I thought I'd let you know why I love shoes so much!

When I headed over to the website, I knew I wanted to find an awesome pair of boots with either a wedge or a chunky heel. There was heaps of choice, but in the end I chose these gorgeous block heel Chelsea boots

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I was so pleased with them when they arrived, delivery was quick and they were well packaged. I found them to be really comfortable. I don't wear heels very often nowadays so i was surprised how comfy they actually where! Don't get me wrong, I'm not sure I could wear them everyday, for hours on end, but I did wear them for about 6 hours whilst shopping in town and I didn't want to chop my feet off at the end of the day, so that's cool!

I love the almond shaped toe of the boot, and how they looked on. It's safe to say I'm completely in love with these babies! I'm also very excited to see after closing 4 years ago, our local Barratts has reopened, and I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come.

If you head over to the website they have 30% off everything at the moment, just enter CRACKER at the checkout! Bargain!

Life is too short....

I've read several posts in the past that talk about the fact we tend to keep items of clothing for "best" and that indeed life is too short for such nonsense. This is something I have to remind myself of, as I am guilty of keeping clothing for best, but the fact of the matter is, I don't actually go out enough, or to special occasions to warrant this.

A prime example of this is this ASOS play suit that has been hung in my wardrobe for a year now, I've even packed it in suitcases when I've been away and still never worn it. It's sat in my wardrobe with the labels on. But no more! I will wear my pretty clothes every day!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Weird pantomime Peter Pan stance aside, I love this playsuit, I remember Rosie wearing hers at Plus London and thinking, "ooh I must remember to wear mine" but did I heck!

I wore a cosy cardi for warmth and comfort, and I'll definitely be wearing this again, no more will items languish in the back of my wardrobe!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Do you keep things for "best" or do you wear all of your wardrobe all of the time?

Bon Prix PJ!

It really must say something about your blog when you're contacted to review Pyjamas but hey, I'm ok with that! Ha ha! As you may know I do love my pyjamas, so when Best British Bloggers got in contact, I was like "hell yeah!"

The guys at Bon Prix sent me some lovely festive PJ's and even for a Scrooge like me they've made me feel a little more festive!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Please excuse the mess, you know it's normally utter chaos in my house, which is why I think I love pyjamas so much, it's that time of the evening, when Michael is putting Poppy to bed, i can get my PJ's on and have half an hour of peace!

The festive PJ's I was sent came as part of a 2 pack, and the other pair are in an even more festive red, but I have a confession to make... I wore them the other day and forgot to get pictures. Bad blogger lady!!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I ordered my usual 22/24 and found them true to size, they are a lightweight jersey, with an elasticated waist. I found them to be really comfy and they washed well too!

Bon Prix have a great selection of Plus Size Pyjamas at the moment, right up to size 32, which is so great to see. I'll definitely check them out again when I need to top up my PJ collection.

Bon, Bon!

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend, it was my birthday today, it was unfortunately not the best start to my 33rd year on this planet. Sadly my nanna passed away today, she always did have impeccable timing... And although we didn't have the closest of relationships, and she had been ill for quite sometime, so the death itself was no great shock, I would still like to dedicate this post to her.

My nanna worked as a seamstress all her life and had a great eye for fashion, as a chubby child and a teenager, when I couldn't find fashionable clothes to fit my nanna would make them for me instead.

So thank you nanna for the clothes.

There you go, not the best birthday, but I did however have the most lovely coat bought for me as a joint birthday/Christmas present from the most unlikely of places, which again links back to my nanna, Bon Marche, yes that favourite of grannies across the land. A little harsh I know, but on the whole pretty true, but they are constantly improving their demographic, and I see more and more great peices coming into store. No, they are never going to set the Plus Size fashion world alight, but I can see them becoming a bigger part of my go to stores for classic pieces and wardrobe basics.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Coat - Bon Marche

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

The coat itself is a faux wool, its so soft to the touch and I love the bold check, I love the collar too, and it's very warm (yes I'm aware of how much of a complete granny I sound, well I am 33 after all) and priced at £49.50 I think it's a complete bargain! If you like it, it's available in store and on line, the details of which are here.. Have you found an exciting item in the most unlikely of shops?

Winter Woolly....

You wil have no doubt by now noticed its getting a bit chilly. No shit Sherlock I hear you cry. So you can imagine how happy I was when the guys at Excite Clothing sent me this gorgeous cosy jumper.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I love the big, bold houndstooth print on this jumper. The material itself is a kind of jersey knit, it's really soft and has an almost velour feel about it. I sized up to a 24, I'm glad I did as I think the 22, although it would have fit fine, wouldn't have had that loose, slouchy feel.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I just teamed mine with simple black leggings and patent ankle boots for a bit of a 60's look but I think this would look great with some really bright jeans too.

Excite have some great pieces in their Plus Size collection at the moment, you can see them here I might have to see if Father Christmas is feeling generous!

It must be love, love, love...

So, over the weekend I had the pleasure of holding a stall at the Cats Pyjamas Festive Vintage Fair. The Cats Pyjamas is a Burlesque cooperative who have held shows in Grimsby for over 5 years now, they've now branched out with a Hull show and their fantastically successful Vintage Fairs.

As some of you might know I used to own a Vintage Tea Party business, but since selling it, I had some left over china stock which I decided to make in to pretty gift sets, the sets went down really well, and its made me think about doing it as a little business but I'm not sure yet... Watch this space!

Whilst MrBeBe looked after the stall for me, I got the chance to have a quick look round and I picked up a couple of compete beauties!

The first of which is this beautiful vintage dress, I'd put it at late 60's/early 70's myself, but if you have a better idea, do let me know, I'm always interested to learn more about vintage clothes.

As I've mentioned in the past, I always get overly excited when I find vintage clothing to fit, so you can imagine my complete glee at finding this!! I picked it up from local company I Luv it, I really do vintage I'm so, so happy with it and for £6? Whaaaat? Amazing!!!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I also picked up this super cute necklace...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

With my love of birdies these two little cuties sat on a branch was too lovely to resist, I picked it form Katy Kitch you can check out their Facebook page here

Do you visit fairs often, have you picked up any nice bargains? I love them as its a great way to support small business and a fun afternoon out!

If you go down to the woods today.....

Ok, so finances as they are in the BeBe household I very rarely get to make purchases for myself nowadays most of our money goes on just living and any extra on Baby BeBe, which I guess makes me a crappy blogger as I rely on my existing wardrobe and those items that I am massively lucky to have sent to me..... SO you can imagine my excitement when I had a little spare bit of cash and managed to treat myself to a piece of clothing I was really excited about!

You might recall I've had a love/hate relationship with ASOS Curve, I love their clothes, I love the bold, trend led pieces, they never fail to bring out exciting plus size clothing, which in itself is still sadly a rarity, but what I hate about Curve is the random, sporadic sizing, how I can never seem to get it right when choosing the right size. Judging from their Facebook page this is something they are looking to improve on and have been holding fit days albeit for under 30's (apparently I'm too old to be fashionable)

So it was with great apprehension I made an order with ASOS, but for this particular item I was willing to take the risk. The item in question popped up on my Facebook feed, then a few of the blogging babes started talking about it too, I really had to have it.

I'm a complete sucker for a conversational print, and one with woodland animals? Hell I'm on board!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore...

Woodland print peplum top - ASOS

Jeans - Simply Be (similar)

Leopard Print Brogues - ASOS (similar)

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Now I have to make an apology to the lovely Hanna at The Wardrobe Challenge. Only last week were we discussing our general dislike of peplums and how we'd never worn them, and then what do I go and do? Oops sorry Hanna ;)

Now to the technical stuff, the top itself is a thinnish jersey, with plenty of stretch in it. I ordered my usual 22, but in all honesty I could have easily sized down to a 20. The print is indeed adorable and as for the peplum style, well I do actually really like, I might invest in a few more but don't worry the blog won't be overrun with peplums, I promise!!

How have you found ASOS sizing, do you share my frustration or has it been ok for you?
