Big Boot Challenge: Yours

Hello! It's time for another Big Boot Challenge instalment, this time we're taking on Yours. I've never had foot wear from them before so I was quite excited at the prospect of trying some out, plus I was excited to see if we could be proved wrong again.

I was surprised by the section of boots they had on the site each one with an XL of XXL calf fitting. I went for the Black Leather Riding boot with Buckle Detail in the XXL, I went for my usual size 6, and as standard all of yours boots are a EEE fitting.

I was pleasantly surprised with the overall look of the boot, the leather is of a really good quality the buckles are really nice and the shape of the boot is nice too.

Did they fit?

Yes! The boots did up with ease and fitted well over my 19.5 inch (495.3 mm) calves. I've worn them on a couple of occasions now and found them really comfortable.

I wore mine with a simple black skirt, striped jumper and houndstooth swing jacket.

I have a new wall!!!

The boots looked great on because I have a slim ankle compared to my calf I found there to be a little bagginess around the ankle, but when you have such an extreme difference in measurements there's not a lot you can do about that.

Curvissa: Cord Dress Review

Hello all!

The lovely guys over at Curvissa sent me this cord shirt dress to try out, as you can see from the pics I wore a couple of weeks ago when I still had the whole blonde thing going on!

So the dress itself is a lovely soft cord in navy blue. The shirt dress style is great for casual days, but dressy enough to go for lunch with the family or maybe a shopping trip (let's get our priorities right eh? Food and shopping)

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Cord Dress - Curvissa - £49.00

I teamed mine with a tan belt although it does come with a matching cord belt I felt it needed something a bit more. I wore knee high boots (also Curvissa, coming soon in Toni and I's Big Boot Challenge)

As always with Curvissa, I found it useful to size up, I went for the 24 to ensure it would fit my hips. My only problem with ts dress is that the combination of press stud fastening and no stretch in the material meant every time I sat down they popped open and my very lucky husband got an eyeful of my, well, everything.... Which is of course not great, if you really love this dress I'd advise sewing down the central seem and putting on over your head, which is what I will be doing.

Overall I liked this dress, I'm enjoying adding more casual dresses to my wardrobe after spending the past few post pregnancy years in leggings for sheer ease! The popper issue is a bit of an annoyance, but luckily I have a mum who's quite handy with a sewing machine!

This girl went there....

Hello all! I'm all moved into to my beautiful new house now, and back in my home town which is all very nice! We're still surrounded by boxes but gradually getting there!
So I guess, really, I shouldn't have gone off galavanting on Thursday, but whilst Michael was off work I took the opportunity to travel down to London, visit some press events and spend time with the most fabulous of folk.

I'll probably take a couple of posts to talk about what I got up to, I think I'll just show you what I wore in this post, firstly... I have a confession to make.... Guys, I caved, I went and bought something from Asda.... I know, I had a massive rant about their crappy sizing and ever disappearing plus sizes and I very much stand by that, but when I'm faced with the absolute dress of dreams, what am I supposed to do? You know I'm going to crumble don't you, I'm such a shallow fashion bitch!!

So what dress was worth going all double standards on your asses for I hear you ask.... Oh boy it's this bad boy.... The sheer, floral, studded collar dress of amazingness. Please tell me you forgive me? Surely you can see why I caved?

What I wore...
Biker Jacket -  Clothing at Tesco
Dress - G21 at ASDA
Shoes - Matalan

The dress itself is comfortable and wearable, and the slipper shoes from Matalan were great, I'm really struggling with shoes at the moment but I wore these to travel in and all day and evening around London, and they were great, no blisters, rubbing etc, so a big thumbs up!

In my next instalment (ha ha) I'll show you what I got up to and may even include a few tipsy photos!

Where you at?

Since becoming involved in blogging and the "fatosphere" if you will, I've come to observe a huge, far reaching and vast community of different people, different sizes, shapes, attitudes and opinions, which, is fantastic. I love that everyone has a different story to tell and that we are all at different stages of our "journey" (ick I hate that word, but couldn't think of a better one)

Long time blog readers will know that my "journey" has been a long and complicated one, having been on a diet of some sort from the age of 9 and then at the still tender age of 26 deciding to have, under the recommendation of my doctor, a gastric bypass, I lost 7 stone, I went from a size 32 to a size 22, and am the woman you see today, prancing around in clothes for your bloggy pleasure.

My operation was a long time ago, 5 years to be precise, long before I discovered blogging and fat acceptance and long before I really had a sense of who I am, and maybe, if I was still a size 32 and I was offered the surgery I had back then, my answer and actions might be very different, but hindsight is a wonderful thing right?

I'm still a fat woman and a very proud one at that, I'm incredibly honoured to have met such wonderful women because of my involvement in the fatosphere, I'm incredibly proud to have organised Plus North and how far my little blog has come, and I'm still like an absolute child when I get invited to posh do's, because if you'd have told me 5 years ago I'd be hob knobbing with fashion types, and wearing beautiful clothes I'd have laughed in your face.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, we're all at different stages of acceptance, some of us still diet, some of us happily never want to see another set of scales in our lives, some of us have been to hell and back in pursuit of something we thought was "normal" and "beautiful" and some of us haven't even formed an opinion as to how we feel about our bodies, and some of us don't give a shit and just want to wear pretty clothes. All of the above is ok, we can't force people to be what we want them to be, much in the same way some people feel forced to become thin, we don't know everyone's story, we don't know what they've been through and what they are dealing with. So, before you pass judgement on someone's worthiness to be in this arena, take a second to think about them, and understand that you don't know everything about them.

OOTD: Friends Old and New

So as some of you may know I'm moving house on Saturday so I've scheduled a couple of posts, just some little Outfits of the Day type things, just so you know I haven't forgotten you all.

I wore this the other day just to go into town and do some jobs (lets face it, at the moment that's all I do get round to doing!!)

The stripe t-shirt has appeared in many an outfit post, I love it so much. It was the most cheap, wardrobe basic from Littlewoods South range that I've now had about 3 years but it just goes with everything. The scarf is vintage, I got it form a fair in York where I was working once. The leather jacket is pretty new I mentioned it in a recent post, I can see it becoming an absolute firm favourite, its just so versatile and comfortable.

I don't know what Michael had just said to me, but I'm pulling the weirdest face...

The bag too is an old favourite from Clarks that gets a hell of a lot of use. They told me on twitter the other day that it's still one of their best sellers!

OOTD: Some day I'll fly away.....

Oh hello! Just a quick one from me today, it would appear my obsession for bird print is ever present, and a visit to the York Designer outlet saw me pick this cutie up from the Next clearance shop. Its just a really cute jumper, not much else to say about it really?

Oh my hair looks a bit scary on this one!!

I just teamed it with a crisp white shirt that I stole from my dad (cheers dad), jeans and pumps. A nice easy outfit for nipping to town, that kind of thing!

Wishin' and Hopin'

So, earlier this month I composed a little wishlist for October and was thinking of doing it monthly, but quite frankly there's so much gorgeous stuff out there I couldn't wait until November, so expect these to pop up sporadically!

Really as by chance and as per the last one I've kind of pulled together an outfit but they are such strong pieces they really can hold their own.

Clockwise from the top...

Sleeveless Blouse with Stud detail - Yours £26.00 - I love this and can see it going great with not only trousers but tucked into a pencil skirt or floaty maxi.

Black Polka Dot Jeans - Evans £29.50 - Oh how I have sat lusting over these, and even with the discount SLiNK magazine has at the moment for 20% off (EVSLINK20) I just can't afford them (damn you house move!)

Black Studded Bag - La Moda £22.00 - I discovered these guys today on twitter... Oh my goodness, how much do I love this bag?!?!? It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine....

Snakeskin Smoking Slippers - Jemima Vine £149.00 - LOVE these, lets face it, miles out of my price range but unlike so many similar shoes out there in this style, these have a more pointed toe, making them a bit less actual slipper like, which I think is gorgeous.

PU Sleeved Trench Coat - Simply Be £75.00 - So cute, and versatile. I find with some coats they only ever look good with trouser or with a skirt, but the classic trench coat style I think it looks great with either.

Have you been lusting anything this month, or is your list like mine, pretty much never ending?

What's Happening?

So, after my 200th post last week I thought it might be nice to do a regular feature whereby I update you on any plus size events that might be coming up.

This Wednesday sees Simply Be host a Plus size chat over on twitter. The last one was massively successful so they've followed it up with a second one. Its so refreshing when a brand wants to hear what you, the customer, wants from them. Last time the overwhelming feedback was that we wanted larger calf boots and by gosh they delivered. Now I'm not saying it was the influence of that one twitter chat but it would be nice to think that were the case...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Also coming up very soon is the Grand Final of the Miss BBW International Pageant. Now I know pageants in general aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I love the fact that event gives plus size women a chance to shine and feel special, and be proud of who they are, something not afforded to us very often. The event itself, boasts live acts including comedian Junior Simpson, Burlesque artist Fabia Cerra and musical acts Diva Dolls and Annaleigh Koch all hosted by the fabulous Alison Hammond from This Morning, tickets include a Champagne Reception, 3 Course Meal and entry to the exclusive Big Girls Paradise After Party. Get all the info on the website

And finally if you fancy doing a spot of shopping SLiNK magazine have a great 20% discount code for Evans running at the moment, enter EVSLINK20 at the checkout! SCORE!

If you have any events or special offers you'd like me to feature please send them my way - I can't promise I'll feature everything, but I'll try my best!

Feeling Human again

I know I keep whinging on about it, but that awful cold really did knock me out for like a week and today was the first day I felt anything like human again. To be completely honest I think it's more just psychological now, I felt so physically bad, it just made feel really down. So what does a girl do when she feels blue? Well this girl puts on a pretty dress and a her best face

The blonde is still taking some getting used to!

What I Wore...
Dress - Vintage via eBay
Biker Boots - Evans
Biker Jacket - Tesco

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
I was so pleased with the dress, one of my rare vintage, plus size finds. It didn't look all that on the hanger, but I was really pleased with how it looked on, the pattern is so cute and the mix of purples, blues and greens is lovely.

I finally got to wear my biker jacket too! I picked this up from Tesco a couple of months ago, it has unfortunately since disappeared from the website, but they do still have a great selection of jackets on there so its worth a look. My boots are the beauties from Evans that I raved about on my rather embarrassing vlog

Do you find a layer of make up and pretty dress goes some way to cheering you up?

Blonde Ambition

For some time now I've been toying with the idea of going blonde it's something I've never done before, then as coincidence would have it, the other day the lovely folk at Jerome Russell Bblonde contacted me to see if I'd like to try out one of their kits. I jumped at the chance to be honest! Life's too short, so thought I'd it give it a go!

The brand itself is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with the launch of its striking new packaging and super helpful website

I received it really quick and couldn't wait to give it a go! The kit was easy to use and came with clear instructions..... And fully equipeed with gloves, mixing bowl, brush and plastic cap....Note to self... Never dye your hair when upset tired or stressed, I was all three of the above and as a result, I totally forgot to use the plastic cap to help with the developing. Silly BeBe! So my first attempt didn't work out exactly perfect...

First attempt... Tangotastic

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
Much Better
After repeating the process 2 days later I found the blonde to be a much better shade. My first attempt was decidedly orange. I've also been advised to use a toner and a good blonde shampoo which I will most definitely do.

Jerome Russell is available in Boots, Superdrug, Lloyds Pharmacies, Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons and with prices ranging from £3.99 to £6.49 there's no reason not to give it a try should you have a bit of blonde ambition too! I'm so glad I tried it, I'm not sure how long I'll keep it this way, but it's been fun!

Do you have any top tips for keeping your blonde hair in tip top condition?

200... Is the magic number

Hi guys! Today's post is brought to you by the number 200 and the letter O - Oh wow! I've somehow managed to find something to write about 200 times now, which is crazy.

I spent some time trying to think what I should do to mark this momentous occasion, some of you kindly suggested I should get my baps out... Thanks guys... But really after much consideration I thought it was only fair to throw it over to you guys. So firstly, thank you for taking the time to read my constant mutterings, it  really is appreciated more than you will ever know, secondly thank you for all the emails and comments I get, every single one makes me grin like the Cheshire cat, no, really.

So speaking of emails, I received an email from a lovely reader.. Hi Tara! *waves* regarding the Yoga project... Yoga?! Yes Yoga!

Long the reserve of slim, lean set, surely a fatty wouldn't be able to engage in such a complex exercise? You bet your ass we can! And "Yoga for the Larger Woman" displays this point beautifully, Established in 2005 Yoga for the Larger Woman has been offering classes, workshops and instruction tailored to a larger frame.
This year has seen them create a beautiful calendar for 2013. And although the project is based in the USA, I've found the images to be inspirational and its got me thinking if is anything similar here in the UK, so if you know of anything, please let me know!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
The Lovely Tara herself!

If any of my USA readers want to grab a copy, head on over to the website, for the UK and rest of world gang head on over and take a peek at the wonderful images, it's really inspirational stuff!

Other exciting Plus positive stuff I've happened upon this week includes Liverpool Fashion Live, although not an exclusive Plus Size Fashion event, it is a great inclusive event with the catwalk featuring all sizes and shapes and brands including plus size favourites Simply Be. The event is raising money for Claire House. Taking place next week on 18th October, tickets are available here.

And speaking of fashion events, the London Plus Size Fashion Weekend seems to be gathering speed, the event organised by Remi from Trapped in a Skinny World has now been partnered with Evolve Magazine.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Taking place on February 15-17th in the heart of London and coinciding with London Fashion Week the event looks to be be fantastic. You can keep up to date with latest developments through their Facebook page.

I think you'll agree its always fantastic when there's stuff going on for us larger folk, so show your support where you can! And lastly a huge thank you again for all your support, every blogger says it, but I really didn't think one person would read my blog let alone the amount that do now, so for that I'm eternally grateful, you all ROCK!!!

Wish List - October 2012

Hello! I am poorly as can be, with, what I have now proclaimed "the worlds worst cold" (OK slight exaggeration, but it's really knocked me for six) as a result I haven't gotten dressed for 3 days, so thought I'd do a bit of a wish list post instead.

                   Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I love these outrageous metallic jeans from Marisota, how amazing?! I also just had to do a little shout out to the Anna Dello Russo for H&M that launched today yummy blinginess. The coat from Evans is just lush and I can see it staying in my wardrobe for many years to come. Peplums don't seem to be disappearing and this one from ASOS Curve is a real bargain, I finished off the outfit with these fab boots from Clarks, I'm a huge Clarks fan, the quality is outstanding every time.

What have you been coveting this month?

Denim and lace....

Hey hey! You might remember some time ago, I was lucky enough to be included on the Clothing at Tesco Plus Size Panel  as well as the voucher they gave me for the giveaway, they were also kind enough to send me a voucher too. So I treated myself to a couple of bits from both the True Range and the standard range. I happened to wear them both together today, so I got Mr BeBe to snap me before he rushed off to Newcastle for an arty type thing...

The two items I chose were....

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

In an ideal world I would have teamed this with some stack heeled boots, quirky jewellery and a designer handbag.. the fact of the matter is though I'm a 32 year old mum who is too busy to worry about heels and faff about with loads of jewellery that my 2 year old insists on pulling on!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I wore...
Grey Sweater - Clothing at Tesco
Skinny Jeans - Clothing at Tesco
Pumps - Cath Kidston

Ha Ha accessorise your outfit with the latest stylish mop!!

I just kept it casual and comfy, where I'm at my happiest! Do you have illusions of grandeur when it comes to planning outfits, but the reality is somewhat different?
