My body, your body, any body....
10:56
Bodies are amazing, bodies are varied and vast and ever changing, for some of us they get us from A to B, some bodies make other bodies and bring them into the world, some bodies entertain and dance, or run and win medals.
No two bodies are the same, nor do they serve the same purpose, and to that end, surely they can't be judged? What is the bench mark for something so individual? If your purpose is different to some one else's how can you judge a body unfit for that purpose?
With celebrities under constant scrutiny, Lady GaGa has hit back at critics by posing in her underwear... So what you might say? She flounces around in her underwear most of the time, but as someone who has had eating disorders in the past, she felt compelled to make a stand and say, this is my body in all it's glory, deal with it.
Earlier this year Fashion fatties caused a stir by posing in their "fatkinis" it hit international headlines.... Look chunky birds in bikinis.... and whilst I admire each and every one of those beauties for making a stand.. I wonder, should we have to? Will there ever be a day that a fat body won't be judged? When we can walk down the street without being glared at, tutted at and in some cases verbally and physically abused?
Well, I guess as long as the media keeps ripping celebrities apart for putting a few pounds on, doctors keep pushing the hard line BMI theory and diet companies keep pushing their unobtainable mumbo jumbo.... Then yes, probably.
And you know what? That sucks.. Because my body is perfectly fine, it gets me around, it walks for miles without breaking down in a big fat wobbly mess, it got pregnant, it carried a perfectly healthy baby without being riddled with diabetes, it runs round the park with my toddler, it turns my husband on and it wears rocking clothes, basically, it does the things I need it to. So who are you to judge my body? I've said it before and I'll say it again, body fascists can kiss my big fat, perfectly active arse.

DeleteYou tell em girl, your body is fabulous!! As long as we are happy it should be all that matters. I think gaga looked too skinny before yet they think shes fat, its ridiculous. People will always be narrow minded, but it is annoying tbat they thin hurtful stuff is ok to say, i dont go around calling larger people names nor skinny people all of our bodies and shapes are different and i respect that. Keep up the fab posts hun and that beautiful smile x

DeleteI think I love you. Beautifully put. Where did you get the corset (you look damn foxy in it btw) think my husband's eyes would pop out Tex Avery styled if I got one! x
ReplyDeleteI love you too! LOL.. the corset was from an eBay trader, I don't recall the name but they're always on there xxx
DeleteMa'am I could not love you any more at this moment it just would not be possible
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day
Why thank you, and you too! xx
DeleteI've been reading your blog for awhile and I love it. You are absolutely adorable!
ReplyDeleteThis is very well stated and clearly out outlines the judgments we face and the standards that society as a whole has developed. I try to have confidence in myself. I wear whatever I want and I flaunt what I've got because that's how I want to live my life. But I still can't walk my kids to the park without getting called names by a group of teenage boys passing us. I challenge any one of those jerks to live my life and still hold their heads high at the end of the day.
But, at the end of the day, like you said, my body does everything I need it to and I'm pretty good terms with that!
Thanks for reading Noelle, it really is appreciated! I too have been shouted at by idiots, and I have challenged them before and you can guarantee they don't know what to do with themselves and you can see the instant shame on their faces!! xxx
DeleteThank you so very much for writing this post. It is true and it is beautiful. However, you should make clear that every fat body is fine regardless of whether it fulfills certain standards of success.
ReplyDeleteSome of us die every time we walk to the cornershop. Some of us can't have or don't want children. Some people are with partners who don't want them (in this case, I recommend they cut their ribbons), and some don't have any partners at all. Some people do develop diabetes, heart attacks and other diseases media adores to associate with fatness. Some people don't have limbs. Some don't have any friends. Some people don't have a family. Some people don't have any money. Some don't have anything at all.
And there's nothing wrong with that.
You're not broken.
You don't need to be fixed.
You're perfectly fine.
You're completely right Cyn, in my haste (always get a bee in my bonnet and bang posts out quick!) I didn't make it clear enough that the bodies that don't do those things are also 100% completely valid bodies too, all bodies are good bodies. Thank you for pointing that out xxxx
DeleteLove this post-I feel exactly the same. My body actually never lets me down. its rarely ill, carried a beautiful baby safely and undramatically into the world and still has my husband chasing me around the bedroom and yet people are still incredibly judgemental and assume Im lazy and unhealthy (Im neither) so I agree-they can kiss our big fat arses.

You're very welcome, so glad you have lots of love in your life x x
DeleteI admire your outlook and confidence, I really do. I long to have this mindset but I just can't see beyond my size. I am fat therefore I am ugly, hideous, an eyesore. Reading your blog and tweets makes me wish I could be more like you!

Keep trying Georgia, you are an astoundingly beautiful woman, you are an amazing individual and that wont change no matter what size you are, your body has done some wonderful things for you, but we are all at different stages of our journey, all I can say is don't wish away your life, thinking it would be any better if you were smaller... it wouldn't x x
DeleteI love this post. And I love you Mrs! I aim to look and feel the way you do, inspiring.
